With all the hype about the year 2012, we figured we’d start the year out in the Mayan Riviera. Thankfully the world didn’t end, but we did have an awesome time running around the ruins and raging at Holidaze. That huge trip really set the tone for a year of travel, as we managed to hit multiple cities in China, jet to Japan for a week, return to the US, backpack through Sichuan province, and vacation in Singapore and Bali. Believe it or not, we managed to hold down solid jobs and a nice apartment at the same time!
The Mayans said the world was going to end in 2012, so we decided to start the year in their neck of the woods by spending two weeks in Mexico to explore the ruins and rage on the beach at Mayan Holidaze. In the first half of the year, we also made it to Luoyang and Xi’an in China, as well as the Land of the Rising Sun for some fun in the hot springs and Lotus in Tokyo.
With limited vacation time at our new found adult jobs in Beijing, we only got to head back to the US for about two weeks over the summer. Thanks to a contract break and Chinese holidays, however, we were able to do a backpacking trip in Sichuan province and take a vacation to Singapore and Bali. We fell in love with the Island of the Gods and its fascinating culture. We liked it so much, in fact, that we moved there for a year so Sasha could study the language and culture in the Darmasiswa program.
