A digital nomad is someone who works online and lives a nomadic lifestyle, working from coffee shops, libraries, and coworking spaces – i.e. they don’t live anywhere. You have to have both components to call yourself a digital nomad.
Back when we lived in China, we used to daydream about the possibility of working online and being able to travel when and where we wanted without having to ask anyone for permission. This was long before the term #digitalnomad became a buzz word. We finally got a taste of taste of that freedom when we quit our jobs, packed up our apaprtment in Beijing, and set out on a 14-month long gap year trip.
Inevitably, we ran out of savings and settled back into “normal” lives in Kunming, China. This time was different, though. We had a newfound desire to figure out how to work on the road so we wouldn’t have to settle back into a “normal” life.
It took some time and hard work but in 2016 we found jobs teaching English online and that propelled us into digital nomad life faster than we could have imagined. These days our online income comes from teaching English online, this here blog, and freelance writing.
Our goal is to help YOU do the same.
This section of the site serves as both inspiration for aspiring digital nomads and as a resource for those already living the lifestyle. As always, feel free to let us know if there’s something you’d like us to add!
